Embraer RJ135

The Embraer RJ140 is a regional jet derived from the ERJ-135, stretched slightly to accommodate up to 44 passengers. It is part of Embraer's ERJ family, sharing a common type rating and high commonality with the ERJ-135 and ERJ-145, which simplifies crew training and maintenance for operators. The aircraft was developed primarily to meet the needs of American Eagle Airlines, which sought a slightly larger capacity than the ERJ-135 while retaining the economic operating profile of the ERJ family. It entered service in the early 2000s and was operated almost exclusively by American Eagle on regional routes within the United States. Production of the RJ140 was limited, with only a small number of airframes built. The type has seen reduced operations over the years as regional aviation trends shifted toward larger and more efficient aircraft, and many examples have been retired or stored.
