Heydar Aliyev International Airport, named after Azerbaijan's former president, serves as the primary air gateway to Baku and the wider South Caucasus region. Opened in its current modern form in 2014, the airport features a striking flame-shaped terminal designed by Turkish firm Autoban, reflecting Baku's identity as the 'City of Fire.' It handles the bulk of Azerbaijan's international traffic and serves as the main hub for AZAL (Azerbaijan Airlines).
- Main International Terminal — The primary and only active passenger terminal, handling all domestic and international flights with a capacity of around 6 million passengers annually.
- Baku Metro Line 2 (Purple Line) — Hava Limanı station connects directly to the city centre
- BakıBus public bus routes operate between the airport and central Baku
- Licensed taxis available at designated ranks outside arrivals; fares to city centre typically 20–30 AZN
- Ride-hailing apps including Bolt and local app Uber AZ operate from the airport
- Car rental desks from international brands (Hertz, Europcar, Sixt) available in the arrivals hall
- Fairmont Baku, Flame Towers
- Hilton Baku
- JW Marriott Absheron Baku
- Wyndham Baku
- Ramada by Wyndham Baku
Inside the terminal, passengers can find a range of cafés, fast-food outlets, and sit-down restaurants offering both Azerbaijani cuisine and international options, with several airside food courts near the departure gates. Outside the airport, the nearby Bina district has local eateries, though the city centre of Baku — about 25 km away — offers far more variety in traditional Azerbaijani dining. Duty-free shopping and several coffee kiosks are available post-security for departing travellers.
- The metro is the fastest and cheapest way to reach central Baku; buy a BakıKart (rechargeable transit card) at the station.
- Always confirm taxi fares before departure or use a metered/app-based cab to avoid overcharging.
- Currency exchange counters are available inside the terminal, but rates in the city centre are generally more competitive.
- Arrive at least 2.5 hours before international flights as security and passport control queues can be lengthy during peak seasons.
