It primarily handles domestic routes and limited regional traffic, complementing the country's major hub at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

The airport's small terminal offers limited food and beverage options, with a basic café and snack kiosks suitable for short waits. The nearby Haifa Bay area and downtown Hadar neighborhood offer a wide variety of Israeli, Arab, and Mediterranean cuisine within a short taxi ride. Visitors are advised to eat before arriving at the airport if they have specific dietary preferences.
- Arrive at least 90 minutes before domestic flights as security checks are thorough even at this small airport.
- Haifa's Carmelit underground funicular connects lower city to the Carmel neighborhoods and is worth using for city exploration.
- Confirm flight schedules in advance as Haifa handles limited routes and services can be subject to change.
- The airport is close to the sea, so coastal fog can occasionally affect operations, especially in winter months.
