Laikipia Air Base, known by its ICAO code HKNY, is a military airfield located near Nanyuki in central Kenya, at the foot of Mount Kenya. It serves as one of the Kenya Air Force's primary operational bases and plays a significant role in national defense and regional security operations. The base has historically hosted joint military exercises with international partners, including the United Kingdom and the United States, owing to Kenya's strategic importance in East Africa. British forces have maintained a training presence in the Nanyuki area for decades, and Laikipia Air Base has been a key facility supporting those activities. While primarily a military installation, the airfield's proximity to Nanyuki means it occasionally intersects with civilian and charter aviation activity in the region. It is not open to scheduled commercial traffic and has no IATA code assigned.
