Playas Air Strip (ICAO: NM86) is a small general aviation airstrip located in Playas, a remote unincorporated community in Hidalgo County, New Mexico, United States. The strip serves the sparse local population and any operational needs associated with the area. Playas itself is a former company town originally built by Phelps Dodge Corporation to support copper smelting operations. The town was later purchased by the federal government and has been used as a training facility. The airstrip supports occasional general aviation and operational access to this isolated location. The facility has no scheduled commercial airline service and functions primarily as a private or general aviation landing area. Its remote desert location near the Mexican border makes it accessible mainly by small aircraft.
