Säve Airport
Göteborg's former secondary airport with rich aviation history.
- ›Previously served as the home base of the Swedish Air Force's F9 Flygflottilj wing.
- ›Known officially as Göteborg City Airport during its main commercial period.
- ›Located approximately 13 kilometres northwest of central Göteborg.
- ›Commercial scheduled passenger services were suspended, leaving the airport primarily for general aviation.
- ›The airport was used by Ryanair as a cost-saving alternative to Landvetter for several years.
Säve Airport, located approximately 15 kilometres north of central Göteborg, served as a former Swedish Air Force base before transitioning to civilian use. Known officially as Göteborg City Airport in its later commercial years, it primarily handled low-cost and charter traffic until regular passenger services ceased in 2015. Today the airfield retains limited general aviation activity and stands as a historically significant site in western Sweden's aviation landscape.
- Main Terminal — A modest single terminal building that handled passenger check-in and departures during the airport's commercial operation period.
- Bus connections to central Göteborg via Hisings Backa
- Taxi services from the terminal forecourt
- Private car and rental vehicle access via Route 155
- Gothia Towers (central Göteborg)
- Scandic Landvetter (near main Göteborg airport)
- Quality Hotel Panorama Göteborg
During its operational years, Säve offered only basic café-style refreshments within the small terminal. Travellers were generally advised to seek dining options in the nearby Hisings Backa district or central Göteborg, which offers a wide range of Swedish and international cuisine.
- Säve is no longer active for commercial passenger flights — verify your departure airport before travelling, as Göteborg Landvetter (GOT) is the main international hub.
- The surrounding area is industrial and suburban, so plan transport to the city centre in advance.
- Göteborg's public bus network connects the Säve area to central stations, but frequency can be limited.
- For general aviation visits, contact the airfield operator directly to confirm current services and facilities.
