Naha International Airport, located on the southern tip of Okinawa's main island, serves as the primary aviation hub for the Ryukyu archipelago. Originally built during the postwar American administration, it was returned to Japanese control in 1972 and has since grown into a dual-use civil-military facility. It handles millions of domestic and international passengers annually, connecting Okinawa's subtropical islands to mainland Japan and nearby Asian destinations.
- Domestic Terminal — Handles high-frequency flights to Tokyo, Osaka, and other Japanese cities, featuring retail and Okinawan dining options across multiple floors.
- International Terminal — Serves regional routes to Taiwan, South Korea, China, and Southeast Asia, with customs, immigration, and duty-free facilities.
- Okinawa Monorail (Yui Rail) — direct connection from the airport to central Naha and Shuri
- Taxi services available at designated stands outside arrivals
- Limousine bus services to major hotels and resort areas across the island
- Car rental counters operated by major Japanese providers including Times, Nissan, and Toyota
- Local bus routes connecting to Naha city centre and surrounding towns
- Okinawa Harborview Hotel
- Daiwa Roynet Hotel Naha-Omoromachi
- APA Hotel Naha Airport
- Vessel Hotel Campana Okinawa
- Richmond Hotel Naha Kokusai-dori
Inside the airport, travellers will find a solid selection of Okinawan specialties including soki soba, champuru dishes, and local awamori-paired snacks at restaurants across both terminals. The domestic terminal's upper floors offer sit-down restaurants with views of the apron, while convenience stores and grab-and-go counters cater to early departures. Kokusai-dori, Naha's famous international street, is a short monorail ride away and offers a far wider range of local cuisine and izakayas.
- Purchase a Okinawa Monorail day pass if you plan to explore Naha city — it connects the airport directly to Shuri Castle and Kokusai-dori.
- Renting a car is strongly recommended for visiting northern Okinawa and the beaches; international driving permits are required for foreign visitors.
- Domestic check-in queues during Obon and Golden Week holidays can be extremely long — arrive at least 90 minutes before departure.
- Duty-free liquor and Okinawan craft items sold inside the airport often reflect unique local products not found on the mainland — worth browsing before your flight.
